Social Membership – How the different worlds come together…

… Or, last chance for Verinsbons!

As Jillaine wrote in her recent article about Social Membership, we all have various different facets to our lives and it is interesting to reflect on how they sometimes overlap.

For the last few weeks, Migros have been running their “Support Kultur” campaign, where vouchers can be collected by different groups and lead to a cash contribution.  Many of you have been kind enougth to pass your vouchers to me, as I also play trumpet with Musikverein Harmonie Adliswil. Last time, we received CHF 2,700 from Migros, which went towards an upgraded drum kit. This time, we hope to raise funds for a new trailer. For those who have passed thair vouchers to me, your support has been much appreciated – In fact as I write, I am one of the people who has collected the most from within the band, which certianly helps my integration into a very Swiss environment!

Networks overlap and I am also part of the organising committee for what will be the second ever International Rugby Match in Zurich, when Switzerland play Ukraine at Utogrund Stadium this coming Saturday, 13th April. As worlds (and rugby teams) collide, I have arranged for Harmonie Adliswil to play some music and the national anthems before the match. During the event, we will also be collecting money for Helfen sie helfen, a local charity supported by St Andrew’s. In addition, we are delighted to be able to welcome guests from Sonnenhof Kusnacht, where Nick Denny, also a member of our congregation, has been helping Ukrainian refugees with language lessons.  It would be great if you could also support the rugby – More information and tickets can be obtained here.

As part of a busy weekend, Harmonie Adliswil then switches to being the band of Zunft zur Schmeiden for Sechseläuten – playing in Adliswil on Sunday and Zurich on Monday. Just for fun and to to give you a flavour of what we do, the video below is of one of our Platzkonzerts from last year. Again, networks overlap and some of you may remember Hans-Jürg Brunner, who was a skilled Blacksmith and a member of Zunft zur Schmiden. Some of his work is on display in St Andrew’s Community Centre.

Vereinsbons are handed out by Migros until 15th April and must be cashed in by 22nd April, so if you are shopping in Migros please do think of me and pass the vouchers to Lisa or I, or add them to the site directly – thank you!
