Generosity is at the heart of our faith: We believe in a generous God, and our own generosity is a testament and hallmark of our faith in action. The ministry and mission of the Church of England and the Diocese in Europe is wholly funded through the incredible generosity of those who give to it.
St Andrew’s Anglican Church is completely self-supporting. We receive no income from the Swiss church tax system, nor from our Diocese in Europe, nor from the Church of England as a whole. Every franc we spend we need to raise ourselves. We are very grateful, therefore, for any donations and financial support received.
We minister to all English-speaking people in a wide area of eastern Switzerland, providing regular worship and pastoral care in Zurich and three daughter communities. With our current running costs, and based on our current congregational numbers, the running of our Church takes almost CHF 3,000 per Electoral Roll member per year. This pays for the salaries of the priest and other essential staff, maintenance of the building and costs associated with worship and mission. We have recently introduced a new state of the art sound system and carried out essential rewiring as part of our ongoing maintenance.
In 2025, of the actual income totalling CHF 485,000, 45% came from planned giving, 18% came from cash/twint collections, 13% came from fund raising, 19% came from rental income (properties) and the remaining 5% came from non-recurring income sources.
In 2025, this income was used as follows: 57% for personnel costs including the Chaplain and other staff, 24% was spent on utilities, maintenance and infrastructure and 9% was our contribution to the Diocesan and Archdeaconry costs and 2% of collections were collected on behalf of other charities. Please note that no stipends are paid to any of our elected officers with oversight responsibility.
There are several ways for you to donate to the mission of our chaplaincy in Zurich:
- When you are in church you will be able to donate cash (in CHF please)
- If you have a Swiss bank account you can donate by Twint
- If you have a bank account you can set up a regular bank transfer
- If you are a visitor or live outside of Switzerland you can donate online using Paypal (coming soon) – there is also a credit card donations terminal inside church)
