We are inviting applications for a committed, practical and organised individual to join us as a part-time Church Caretaker. This crucial behind-the-scenes role involves overseeing the general maintenance, security, minor repairs and supplies of our church and community centre.
Key responsibilities include:
- Remove rubbish from the church garden and keep the paved areas surrounding the church, community centre (CC) and church house free of leaves.
- Empty bins in CC and check that windows and doors are secured.
- Collect recycling from CC/office for collection, or take away to recycling plant.
- Set up tables in CC for church events and assist with loading of boxes for yearly Bazaar. Clean storeroom on Bazaar day.
- Perform minor repairs, e.g., changing light bulbs, unblocking drains and basic plumbing or electrical work.
- Keep garage and caretaker’s workroom tidy.
- Inform the office when CC supplies are running low, e.g., WC paper, handtowels, soap.
- There is occasional work on weekends as needed for special events.
Important qualifications include:
- We are looking for someone who is able to perform physically demanding tasks like lifting, carrying and climbing ladders.
- You must have an approachable manner and be able to communicate effectively with the office either in German or English.
- We also need someone who is flexible and who is able to proactively identify and resolve issues related to building maintenance and security.
- Prior experience is desirable but not essential; however, we need you to be able to hit the ground running with minimal instruction.
- Applicants must currently hold the independent right to live and work in Switzerland and be prepared to ensure that that right remains throughout the scope of the contract. We cannot sponsor a work permit.
