Thank you for Supporting Kultur

A number of our congregation have been kind enough to pass their Migros “Support Kultur” vouchers on to me, so I thought I would share more of where they are going, particularly as the forthcoming Sechseläuten is an important weekend!

Last September, I joined Harmonie Adliswil, playing my trumpet.  I was finally persuaded to join by Codrin, who is our saxophonist in the erstwhile Church band*.  We are collecting the vouchers to help update the drums, particularly for when we march as the band of the Zunft zur Schmiden, or the Blacksmiths’ Guild**. It is as the band of the Zunft zur Schmiden that we are participating in Sechseläuten – complete with leather aprons and cloth caps.

Playing and marching is a new experience for me!  As a warm up, on Sunday we will march through Adliswil, performing pieces as we go, as well as concerts at one of the old peoples’ homes and in the central square.  On Monday, we will be in Zurich, performing concerts at 13:30 and 20:00 in Stüssihofstattplatz, as well as marching in the guild parade during the afternoon.  All are welcome and it would be lovely to see a friendly face in the crowd, for what will be quite a day – We wrap up the day with a closing concert at midnight in the Zunfthaus!

Thank you to all of you who have contributed vouchers and please wish me luck for Sunday and Monday!  Vouchers are still being issued until the 17th April, but need to be logged/entered by the 24th April, so please do pass on any that you may have or receive.

The Eight Symbols of the Christian Faith. Made & presented to St Andrew’s by Hans-Jürg Brunner in 1997.

*At St Andrew’s, our enthusiastic band of wind and brass players is made up of volunteer musicians of all ages and provides music for our monthly Intergenerational Communion Service, usually on the second Sunday of the month. We practise individually and then meet for an hour’s rehearsal before the service. We would love to welcome more players, including percussionists and strings players to our group.
This is a great way to begin playing as part of a group and participation can be on an ad-hoc basis.

If you are interested in joining, please email our Director of Music

**Some of you may remember Hans-Jürg Brunner, who was a skilled Blacksmith and a member of Zunft zur Schmiden. Some of his work is on display in the Community Centre.
