O LORD our heavenly Father, Almighty and everlasting God,
who hast safely brought us to the beginning of this day:
Defend us in the same with thy mighty power;
and grant that this day we fall into no sin,
neither run into any kind of danger;
but that all our doings may be ordered by thy governance,
to do always that is righteous in thy sight;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
‘Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust consume and where thieves break in and steal; 20but store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consumes and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
22 ‘The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light; 23but if your eye is unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!
from Psalm 35
For they do not speak of peace,
but invent deceitful schemes against those that are quiet in the land.
They opened wide their mouths and derided me, saying
‘We have seen it with our very eyes.’
This you have seen, O Lord; do not keep silent;
go not far from me, O Lord.
Awake, arise, to my cause,
to my defence, my God and my Lord!
Give me justice, O Lord my God,
according to your righteousness;
let them not triumph over me.
Let them not say to themselves,
‘Our heart’s desire!’
Let them not say, ‘We have swallowed him up.’
Let all who rejoice at my trouble be put to shame and confusion;
let those who boast against me
be clothed with shame and dishonour.
Let those who favour my cause rejoice and be glad;
let them say always,
‘Great is the Lord, who delights in his servant’s well-being.’
So shall my tongue be talking of your righteousness
and of your praise all the day long.
