The Passion

Hear the Easter story in contemporary style with a rock band and orchestral backing

We are familiar with many classical music compositions of the Passion but many would not be familiar with more contemporary versions.

If you lived through the emergence of rock music, and the days of the “Godspell” and “Jesus Christ Superstar” stage shows, I would recommend listening to “The Passion” by Adrian Snell on YouTube. The CD was recorded with the London Philharmonic Orchestra.

I find Adrian’s lyrics refreshingly natural. I prefer to listen to it as studio CD tracks but you may prefer the version as live on TV  (if you can cope with the clothes of the day). Adrian studied music at university, including piano, methinks, because the piano part is fiendish in places (I asked for a copy of the orchestral arrangements). Some of these songs he composed while still a student, developing them into a full work later on.

Adrian gives music therapy to children with severe medical conditions and was featured in a BBC Sunday programme a few years ago. I visited to observe and was moved at seeing his work and the dedication of the medical staff.
